Aizawl: At least nine tribal MLAs from the hilly areas of Manipur and various civil society organizations will hold a meeting in Aizawl on Wednesday over the protests that have rocked the neighboring state recently, a leader said on Tuesday.

The leader said that Kuki MLAs and leaders of the recently formed Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) comprising various civil society organizations of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zumi-Hmar group in Manipur held a meeting on Wednesday evening will review the current situation of the state and discuss the political agenda and future course of action.
He said that the discussion in the proposed meeting is expected to focus on security issues, separate administration and relief measures for the tribal people.
Earlier on May 12, 10 Kuki MLAs, including 7 from the BJP, had urged the Center to provide assistance to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zumi-Hamar community in the wake of violent clashes between their majority Meiteis and tribals. I will form a separate administration. .

The MLAs alleged that the violence was perpetrated by the majority Meitei community and supported by the BJP-led state government.
“The unrelenting violence that started in Manipur on May 3, 2023, against the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zorni hill tribes by the big mutts, tacitly supported by the present government of Manipur, has made the state has already divided and completely seceded from the state of Manipur,” the MLAs said in a joint statement.

The MLA had said that his people could no longer exist under Manipur as hatred against the tribal community had reached such an extent that MLAs, ministers, priests, police and civil officers, ordinary people were killed in the recent communal violence. Men, women and even children were not spared.

Meanwhile, people from violence-hit Manipur continue to pour into Mizoram as more than 1,000 people have entered the state in the past 2 days, taking the total number of displaced people to 6,932, officials said on Tuesday. .
A total of 2,401 people belonging to the Zo or Mizo ethnic tribe have taken refuge in Saitual district in the northeastern part of the state bordering Manipur, he said.

Aizawl district, which also shares a border with Manipur, is currently hosting 2,259 internally displaced persons from the neighboring state, while 2,099 people have taken refuge in Kolasib district near the Assam border, he said. has taken
The remaining 173 people took refuge in Champhai, Khawzawl and Serchhip districts.

Officials said the displaced have been kept in temporary relief camps and many others have been sheltered by their relatives.

He added that the state government is making massive efforts to provide shelter, food and other relief items to the displaced people.
