
Youth, Assam Rifles troops brought back home to join NSCN-KYA
Tinsukia: Assam Rifles troops rescued a 21-year-old youth, who had crossed the international border into Myanmar to join the Naga Freedom fighter organizationย NSCN-KYA.
A youth (name withheld for security reasons) belonging to Longchan Circle under Longding District of Arunachal Pradesh went missing on November 14.
An Assam Rifles source said that based on a tip-off about youths who had left home with the aim of joining the NSCN-KYA, an Assam Rifles official posted at Wakka post activated his sources.
“Assam Rifles officials reportedly approached and convinced the individual not to make the mistake of returning to the family and taking up arms,” โโsources said.
“On Tuesday evening (November 22), the young man returned safely, and was reunited with his family,” the source added.
“During counseling of the youth, it has come to light that he had planned to join a Naga Freedom fighter group due to unemployment, family feuds and drug abuse.”
A senior official told this correspondent that the problem of unemployment and drug abuse is a challenging concern and the Assam Rifles along with the civil authority and the police should play their part to solve the problem and provide opportunities for the youth.
