Zoramthanga at B20 meet, pitches Mizoram’s resources to industry

Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Thursday said the state is rich in natural resources and other resources, including a compact social set-up, which is conducive to setting up large scale industries.
Addressing the B20 meeting at Mizoram University (MZU) on the western outskirts of Aizawl, the Chief Minister said the state has vast and fertile land, two to three times the state’s population of just over a million. Can eat food.

He said that the state has great potential for agriculture and horticulture and almost all plantations or from vegetables to fruits are doing well across the state.

He said that apart from natural resources, the state also has all the pre-requisites, which are conducive to setting up industries and processing units.
“We have vast land, raw materials, good climate, clean environment, connectivity. We also have a compact society and strong NGOs, speak one language and follow almost one religion to set up industries. create a conducive environment for it,” said Zoramthanga.
He urged the Center and other participating foreign countries to set up industries and invest in various sectors.

The Chief Minister said that such industries or manufacturing units should be set up in the state for those raw materials which are locally abundant or available.
He said that though the state has productive capacity, it is suffering due to lack of processing units.

Zoramthanga also said that Mizoram is rich in bamboo and more than 50 percent of the state’s geographical area is covered by bamboo.
According to him, scientists have estimated that the state has about 25 million metric tons of naturally grown bamboo, which can be effectively utilized for economic development.
“Bamboo is like a magic wand. It can be used for various economic or commercial purposes such as paper, flooring, handicrafts, and among others.”

The Chief Minister further said that the state is rich in economic molecules and these molecules should be activated.
