Youtuber in Tripura beaten for casting Hindu models in Eid video

Tripura: In a shock from Tripura, a YouTuber named Bapan Nandi was publicly beaten and humiliated for allegedly casting Hindu models in an Eid music video.

Nandi, who hails from Tripura’s Udaipur town, was beaten up by an angry mob that questioned why Hindu girls were cast as Muslim characters in the video.

The video of him being beaten was caught on video and went viral on social media platforms.
Meanwhile, the YouTube community, along with other content creators, condemned the incident and called it an ‘attack’ on efforts to promote communal harmony.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has registered a case against Nandi for defaming the Hindu community.

However, Nandi claimed that she was not the producer of the video and worked as an artist like several other models and content creators.
“This video was posted on my channel a day after it was released on the channel of my friend Siddique who owns a YouTube channel called Mr. Siddik. But the attacks were directed at me. I don’t know the other crew members and cast. “Each of us was paid to act in the song,” Nandi told a local news portal.
He added, “The elected deputy chief of East Gokul Nagar Panchayat called me to his house for some work. We know each other so I went there and found around 30 to 40 youths waiting for me. The Panchayat leader slapped me, beat me there in front of everyone.I kept asking what was my fault and explained that the video was produced by another channel and the casting was done by them but no one was there to listen. A case has also been registered against me but I don’t know for which offence.
Moreover, the girls who acted in the video also released video statements saying that they don’t mind portraying any character in music videos as the nature of their jobs demands such a change in roles.
