Youth recreational and impact centers to be set up in Nagaland

Dimapur: The Nagaland Youth Resource and Sports Department has set up five more Youth Recreation and Impact Centers under the State Innovation Program which can serve as thriving hubs of activities for the youth and help them get away from drugs and alcohol. Can help keep away from increased incidence of alcoholism, teenage pregnancy, and many other issues.

The center in Kohima was inaugurated on May 22 while four other centers are being set up in Longleng, Mon, Tuensang and Kiphire.
The aim of this project is to help the youth who are facing difficult situations due to limited opportunities. By establishing these centers, the Department aims to provide a healthy, safe and well-equipped environment for youth and create positive experiences to reduce crime rates by raising more educated, happy and responsible citizens.
In most parts of Nagaland, no such centres, either privately owned or government-run, currently exist, the department said.

He observed that the acute lack of free community recreation centers forces most of the youth to spend their free time at home or on the streets, leading to several youth-related problems such as depression, juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, etc.
“The role of centers like this is critical to communities like ours that lack the necessary facilities to keep our children in a safe after-school environment during their free time,” the department said.

He added that these centers will provide youth with a healthy outlet for their creativity as well as energy, which will go a long way towards betterment of the community in the long run.
