GUWAHATI: Women activists in Manipur on Sunday started an indefinite blockade on the Imphal-Tiddim road to protest against the killing of a driver.
The women activists said they had started the protest demanding action against the criminals involved in the abduction and murder of Manipur driver Yengkhom Priyobrata.
The killing of the driver caused tension in the area.
According to reports, drivers in Manipur have also planned to protest against the murder.
The Manipur Police had conducted a routine inquiry and requested the Nagaland counterpart to provide available information.
The driver was allegedly kidnapped on December 30 and his body was found in Nagaland on Saturday.
“My husband is serving passengers in his van between the border towns of Imphal and Moreh. We heard from him at 9 p.m. on December 30 informing us that he was going to Nagaland with some passengers.
“But later when we called him, he did not pick up the mobile phone and eventually it was switched off. We filed a missing report at the Bishnupur police station on January 2,” The Hindu quoted Priyobrata’s wife Yengkhom Ibemcha as saying.
Police said there have been several incidents of beating, killing and robbing drivers from Manipur in some parts of Nagaland.
