Woman hanged from tree in Assam on suspicion of witchcraft: Police

Guwahati: A 45-year-old woman was allegedly hanged from a tree in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on suspicion of witchcraft, police said on Monday.

An official said that three people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident which took place in Mohanpur village of Gossaigaon police station area.
The woman went missing from the village on Saturday and her husband informed the headman who lodged a complaint with the police the same day.

The officer said police and villagers began searching for the woman and found her hanging from a tree on the outskirts of the village Sunday night.

He said knife wounds had been found on his body, suggesting he had been killed before being hanged, adding that the body had been sent for an autopsy.
