Wheel down strike by Oil tankers association in Manipur ended
Imphal: Petroleum tanker drivers in Manipur have decided to end their steering wheel down strike today and will continue to ply on National Highway 37, Imphal-Jiribam road. Petroleum and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) transport trucks will resume supplying oil to the Malom Oil Depot and LPG to Sekmai Gas Bottling Plant with immediate effect.
This development came after the government provided assurances of necessary security along National Highway 37. Officials from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), transporters’ associations, drivers’ associations, and the Manipur Police Department’s ADG (Law and Order) held a meeting on Monday.
After a detailed discussion and hearing from the aggrieved parties, agreements were reached. During the meeting, the police department assured that one senior officer would be stationed in the Nungba area to conduct operations and coordinate the movement of convoys along National Highway 37.
Additionally, the police department pledged to enhance security in vulnerable areas by deploying additional MR (Manipur Rifles) or IRB (India Reserve Battalion) personnel to prevent further attacks and the illegal collection of taxes by anti-social elements on petroleum and LPG tanker drivers.
The police department also committed to sensitizing the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) and other security forces deployed along NH-37.
