Wanglem Konyak of Congress will contest for Tapi seat in bypolls

Kohima: The Congress on Wednesday nominated Wanglem Konyak as its candidate for the Tapi Assembly seat bypoll in Nagaland’s Mon district.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28. Polling for the by-election will take place on November 7, and the results will be announced on December 3.
The last date for filing nomination papers is Friday. Speaking during the ticket handing over ceremony at the Congress Bhawan here, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president S. Supongmeren Jamir said the party’s rank and file will fight hard to win the by-election.
He said that the ruling NDPP is running a coalition government with the BJP in the state while the Congress is ready to stand up for the people of the Christian state.
He said that we hope that people will support the party for change. In his acceptance speech, Wanglem Konyak assured the people of the constituency that he would do everything possible for the development of the constituency in particular and the state in general.
In the last elections, Konyak contested as the nominee of the Naga People’s Front (NPC) and lost by 82 votes against Noke Wangnao of the NDPP.
