GUWAHATI: Amid violence in Manipur, at least 16 people belonging to Kuki and Meitei were arrested after clashes between two groups in Shillong on Thursday evening.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said that following the violence between Kukis and Meitei’s in Manipur, a stir was witnessed today when Nongrim Hills near Mizo Morden School under Laitumkhrah Police Station, Shillong at around 5.30 pm. There was a clash between two groups.
The police reached the area and found two people from one community being abused by the other community.

“To prevent the situation from escalating further, the EKH police have arrested 16 persons from both communities under Section 107 CrPC and booked them for causing trouble,” Nongtnger said.
The SP said that strict action will be taken against those who want to disturb the peace of the city.
