Vaiphei People’s Council: 7 Kuki Zomi girl raped, 8 strangled, 5 dead

Imphal: In a shocking revelation of the ongoing unrest in the violence-torn state of Manipur, the Vaiphei People’s Council, Young Vaiphei Association, Zomi Students Federation and Kuki Students Federation claimed in a press conference on July 23 that 7 Kuki Zomi women had been raped since the violence erupted.
The Tribal Students Federation further claimed that out of the 27 women affected during the communal clashes since May 3, 7 were raped, 8 were strangled, 2 were burnt, 5 were shot dead, 3 were lynched while the cause of death of the rest is unknown.
A shocking video of two women being paraded naked by a group of men in Manipur has sent shockwaves through the country.
The riots in Manipur sparked widespread outrage across the country, with citizens expressing their anger at violence against women in the state.
A video from Manipur, dating back two months, resurfaced on July 19, showing two women being paraded naked by a group of men.
The incident took place on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, just a day after violence erupted in the northeastern state.
Bollywood celebrities including Akshay Kumar and Richa Chadha joined the chorus of condemnation against the violent acts.
After a shocking video surfaced on July 19, exposing the gruesome assault and nude parade of two women in riot-torn Manipur, police arrested six people, including a minor, in connection with the incident.
The search for more accused involved in the incident is on.
They further said that such horrific incidents of targeting women, crimes against humanity, especially violence against tribal women, have no place in our society, adding, “Individuals, groups, leaders and instigators responsible for these acts should be booked according to the law of the land.”
“We appeal to all right-thinking citizens of our country to join us in condemning not only the incidents where these two women were gang-raped, but the state government and political forces responsible for allowing such incidents to take place.
The mob may be a faceless body, but the real culprits are those in power with an agenda of hatred and violence who have fueled communal violence in Manipur,” they said.
