Uproar in Tripura assembly session five opposition MLAs suspend

Agartala: The Tripura Legislative Assembly was in turmoil on July 7 as five opposition MLAs were suspended from the ongoing budget session. Speaker, Biswabandhu Sen took the decision to suspend the MLAs for allegedly disturbing and damaging the decorum of the House during the session.
The suspended MLAs include Congress Party’s Sudip Roy Barman, Barishketu Debbarma, Ranjith Debbarma, and Tipra Motha’s Nandita Raeng besides CPIM’s Nayan Sarkar. His suspension followed a series of protests and disruptions launched by opposition parties.
The controversy erupted when Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma inquired about the status of adjournment of BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath’s alleged involvement in watching obscene videos during the last assembly session.
However, the Speaker refused to answer their questions and proceeded to present the budget on behalf of the Finance Minister.
In response, the opposition leaders descended into the well of the house and expressed their displeasure and demanded strict action against MLA Nath. The protest escalated when three Tipra Motha MLAs climbed onto a table in the house to express their displeasure.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha supported the Speaker’s decision to maintain the decorum of the House and requested the suspension of five opposition MLAs.
On the request of the Chief Minister, the Speaker suspended the members of the Assembly from the ongoing session, as a result of which the opposition parties staged a walkout in protest against the decision.
