GUWAHATI: Union Minister Rameswar Teli on Monday urged the G-20 countries to continue discussions on the three priority areas of the Employment Working Group – the skills gap, the gig and platform economy and sustainable financing of social security – to give them a clear vision. Strategies can be changed.
Addressing the opening session of the second session of the EWG here, the minister said that “remarkable progress was made during the first meeting in February in Jodhpur”.
Minister of State for Labor and Employment Teli said that the collective efforts of G20 delegates, academic partners and guests have laid a strong foundation for the three priority areas of the working group.
He said that after the formation of the ministerial declaration, the relevant ministries will carry forward the discussions in their respective countries.
“This communique is key to determining the future direction of the global economy through its eventual implementation in G20 countries, and requires collective and constructive dialogue to move towards concrete results on key priority areas,” said Teli. ”
He said that the G20 countries should continue this dialogue with utmost caution and responsibility while designing public policy in such a way that it reaches the vulnerable and the poor.
Assam Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary also spoke on the occasion.
The first day of the meeting included sessions focused on various priority areas of the G20 Entrepreneurship Research Center and working groups on sustainable finance, digital economy and education with the Labor 20 (L20) and Business 20 (B20) chairs.
The EWG has a mandate to address priorities on labor, employment and social issues for strong, sustainable, balanced and employment-rich growth for all.
A total of 74 delegates from nineteen G-20 countries, seven guest countries and five international organizations participated in the three-day meeting.
Representatives of International Labor Organization, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, International Social Security Association (ISSA), Asian Development Bank and World Bank were present at the event.
