Union Forest Minister on the elephant-elephant conflict

Guwahati: Congress Union Forest Minister from Nagaon Lok Sabha Constituency Pardevot Bordoloi has written to the Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change requesting him to take initiatives to resolve the human-elephant conflict in Assam.

It should be noted that the conflict between elephants and man-eaters has increased on a large scale in the last few days.
In a letter to Bhupendra Yadav, Bordoloi wrote, “I am writing to express my concern and draw your attention to the increasing incidence of human-elephant conflicts in my home state of Assam.”

He added, “In the last fortnight alone, we have lost 11 wild elephants in Assam due to various causes like poisoning, electrocution and railway accidents. This has led to the management of human-wildlife conflict and our heritage.” concerns about the safety of animals.”
He further said that the rapid reduction of forest area due to unplanned and indiscriminate development works and industrialization has seriously damaged the traditional movement routes of elephants in Assam.
“This habitat destruction and weak enforcement of wildlife protection laws raises serious concerns about the management of the human-elephant conflict”, he wrote.
The MP added that this human-wildlife conflict in Assam, which is claiming both human and elephant lives, must be stopped through timely measures on the ground.

“I request the ministry to take notice of this serious problem and take steps to formulate an effective mitigation strategy,” he added.
