UM Barla says Christian's efforts are not respected as they deserve

Dimapur: John Barla Union Minister said that the country’s Christian community has contributed a lot in nation building, but they do not get the respect they deserve.

Addressing a program organized by the National Christian Council in Nagaland’s Dimapur on Sunday, he said the people of the community should unite and tell the country about their contribution before and after independence.
People have studied in institutions set up by the Christian community and become IAS officers, doctors, engineers and even political leaders, he said.

Do we have to tell the people what we have given the country? We don’t blow our own horn, that’s why we don’t get respect,โ€ said Minister of State for Minority Affairs (MOS) Barla.
“We have contributed a lot to nation building, but our churches were destroyed,” he said.

He further said that Christians are not a threat to the country but are at the forefront of nation building.
The Minister said that this is the time for Christians across the country to unite, and make people aware of the contribution they have made to the nation.
“Before independence, we built schools, hospitals and ashrams, and till today, we are serving the people of the country. We did not get respect during the previous governments, but this government has given me the responsibility to serve the people. Let me go and tell them to trust the present government because it is not against Christians.
