GUWAHATI: ULFA-I and NSCN-KYA boycott Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
ULFA-Independent and the Young Aung faction of NSCN-K have called for a bandh in five northeastern states on Independence Day.
ULFA-I and NSCN-KYA called for a shutdown of August 15 – India’s Independence Day – terming it a ‘fake’ celebration.
Both have called a bandh in the northeastern states: Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya.
The organizations asked people in the area not to participate in the Independence Day celebrations “at all levels”.
The Freedom fighters organizations had called a bandh on August 15 from 12 am to 6 pm.
They issued a joint statement calling for a boycott of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
“However, there is no restriction on emergency departments, media and religious activities during this period,” the statement said.
