Bishnupur: In a disturbing development amid the ongoing unrest in Manipur, two Zeliangrong Nagas from Noney district were abducted and brutally beaten up at Moirang under Bishnupur district on Tuesday.
The incident has sparked outrage from the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur (ZSUM) and the Federation of Civil Society Organizations (FOCS).
According to ZSUM, the victims, Giangjilung Rongmei (38) from Khoupum Satudai, Noney District, and Jeanguanglung Malangmei (28) from Bitiang Village, Noney District, were abducted and held hostage by six suspected Arambai Tenggol members at gunpoint.
The incident took place around 5 pm on Monday, the victims were threatened, severely beaten and accused of being Kukis. During the abduction, the attackers took away valuables worth Rs 2 lakh, including Rs 21 thousand in cash.
The incident took place on the same day when a 19-year-old student from Kamjong district was abducted by unidentified men in uniform and later recovered from Imphal West by the Manipur Police.
Expressing deep grief over the incident, ZSUM condemned the atrocity and highlighted the lack of positive response from the government despite calls for an investigation into the matter. The student body stressed that their organization could no longer tolerate such actions.
