Itanagar: Two people were killed when their house near Punjabi Dhaba was hit by a massive landslide due to continuous rains, police said on Monday.

Capitol Superintendent of Police (SP) Jimmy Chiram said a woman was still trapped inside a bamboo house with a tin roof, which collapsed due to a landslide Sunday night.
He said that two bodies have been recovered from the wreckage but the fate of the woman has not been ascertained yet.

The SP added that an operation was underway to rescue him, but bad weather was a major obstacle.

The dead have been identified as 50-year-old Nagan Berman and Tapas Rai, 15, while Kasim Rai, 35, is yet to be rescued, said Phassang Sami, in-charge of Itanagar police station.
Heavy rains have lashed most parts of the northeast for the past few days, with landslides reported from several districts, officials said.

He said that the administration has designated Government Higher Secondary School here, Government Middle School at Naharlagan and Nikam Naya Hall at Bandardiva as temporary relief camps.
