
Two judicial officers raised as judge, Additional judge in Tripura HC
Agartala: In a notification, the central government has appointed Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha as a judge of the Tripura High Court while Biswajit Palit has been appointed as an additional judge of the court.
In an order issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, both judicial officers, including Purkayastha and Palit, have been appointed for a two-year term.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 217 and Clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha as a Judge of the Tripura High Court from the date on which he shall assume office. charge and Biswajit Palit shall be appointed as Additional Judge of the Tripura High Court for a period of two years, from the date on which he shall assume charge of his post,” the order said.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended their appointment as High Court judges on October 10. The High Court collegium had recommended their names in December 2021.
Biswajit Palit is currently the Legal Secretary and Law Secretary with the state government.
Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha is the current Director of Tripura Judicial Academy.
With the latest appointments, the Tripura High Court will soon function with its full sanctioned strength of five judges.
