Twenty-five more Assam students arrive in New Delhi from Ukraine

Guwahati:  An official release said that 25 more students from Assam, stranded in war-torn Ukraine, had arrived in New Delhi, bringing the total number of deportees from the state to 57.

The expelled students were received at the airport by Assam government officials.

According to the release, the first batch of three students arrived late Wednesday night, followed by ten others on three different flights early Thursday morning, while 12 others arrived later in the day.

All the students have been shifted to Assam House where they will stay till arrangements are made for air travel to Guwahati by the state government officials.

The state government has a list of 212 people from Assam stranded in Ukraine, with the highest number of 88 Kamrups from the metropolitan area, 17 from Morigaon and 10 from Kamrup.

Twenty-eight evacuees have already returned to Assam, including 12 from Kamrup Metropolitan and three from Kamrup.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua has directed the district administration to reach out to the parents of the students who are still stranded in the war-torn Eastern European country.

The Assam government is in constant touch with the Foreign Ministry to ensure the safe return of all those stranded in Ukraine.

The state government has activated a number of helpline numbers to reach people stranded in the war-torn European country.

Operation Ganga has been launched by the central government to safely repatriate Indian nationals from Ukraine and four senior Union ministers have been sent as special envoys to the prime minister to Romania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. Personally lead evacuation efforts through these countries. .
