Dimapur: The National Socialist Council of Nagalam-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) on Tuesday said the Nagas have asked the party to negotiate with the Government of India (GoI) to bring about an “honorable solution” to the long-running peace talks. Ordered.
NSCN-IM Chairman Q Tuccu confirmed this during a function to mark NSCN’s 44th Foundation Day at its General Headquarters in Camp Hebron here.
“The NSCN has in fact been given the responsibility by the Naga people to negotiate with the Government of India for a dignified solution to the long-standing political issue. So far, we have been seeking the ‘self-determination’ of the Naga nation. They have not bowed down in defense of rights,” he said.
Tuccu said that the strong stand of NSCN-IM was well reflected when it signed the historic Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said the past year had been a challenging one for the NSCN-IM as it was placed in an unexpected situation as the central government “failed to honor its commitment to resolve the Naga issue on the basis of the Framework Agreement.”
Talks with central government negotiators have stalled on two NSCN-IM demands – that there should be a separate constitution and a flag for Nagaland.
“We will hold on to the land and never surrender our sovereign right, our land and our people,” he asserted.
“We cannot afford to undermine the sanctity of the Naga political issue under any pretext,” the NSCN-IM chairman said.
Stating that the Naga issue came into international focus when the Framework Agreement was signed on August 3, 2015, he lamented that the central government “has not fulfilled its promise to the Naga people, which the whole world has witnessed.”
He said that NSCN-IM has tested the acid of time and brought this issue to this.
“NSCN is a principled organisation. Our conflict is principled. Our dialogue is principled and the solution will also be principled.
Our position on unity and reconciliation is also principled. Any move for resolution or unity and reconciliation is a betrayal of principle,” he said.
