Agartala: Tripura: Women protestors heckle BJP leader, teargas fired, cops injured Tensions erupted in the Tedo Bazaar area under Tripura’s Amarpur sub-division on Tuesday when hundreds of women protested near a BJP program, chanting slogans against state BJP vice-president Patel Kanya Jamaat.
The party, which was a civil rights activist before joining the Saffron Party, has seen a strong reaction to severing ties with other regional parties and joining the BJP.
Speaking on the occasion, SDPO MP Atam Bank said, “There was a pre-arranged program of joining the BJP at the Taido Community Hall, a stone’s throw away from the main bazaar where the Patil Kanya Jamaat was present. Hundreds of people began to gather on the main road in the early hours of the morning to arrive at the venue, all carrying black flags and placards with slogans calling for the return of the Patel Kanya Jamaat.
He said that with the passage of time, the protests intensified when women workers blocked the main entrance.
“However, we have taken control of the situation and allowed all the leaders to pass through the blockade without any hassle. Some of our policemen were injured while dealing with the situation. Two of our vehicles were wrecked, one motorcycle “A specific FIR is being registered at the local police station and we hope that all the accused will be arrested soon,” the bank said. He further added that tear gas shells were fired to disperse the protesters.
