Agartala: Youth Congress workers on Monday surrounded the Tripura Police headquarters in Agartala and demanded the arrest of the criminals involved in the attack on Keshab Sarkar’s residence.

The residence of Keshab Sarkar, who quit the ruling BJP to join the Congress, was allegedly vandalized by BJP workers at Majlispur under Jiraniya police station in Tripura on Saturday.

The government alleged that despite several calls, the police arrived hours after the assailants left their residence.

Tripura Congress president Brajit Sinha alleged that BJP-backed goons were behind the attack and that the attackers, who targeted opposition leaders and supporters, were backed by a minister.
Youth Congress workers blocked the entrance gate of Tripura Police Headquarters demanding the arrest of the culprits and suspension of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) supervised by Congress MLA Sudeep Roy Burman on August 11. was attacked in Jerania.

The Youth Congress also gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the police.

The opposition CPI(M) blamed the ruling BJP for the attack. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with other CPI(M) leaders visited Jirania on Sunday to take stock of the situation.

Condemning the attack, former CM Sarkar alleged that Tripura has turned into a safe haven for criminals.
The government was first booked under the National Security Act in 2018, a few months after the BJP-led coalition came to power.

After being released on bail four-and-a-half months later, Sarkar said he was the victim of a political conspiracy hatched by his own party colleagues.
