
Tripura Police arrested one with Cannabis worth over 4 lakh
Agartala: In a major breakthrough for the anti-narcotics drive, the Tripura police on Thursday successfully intercepted a 12-wheeler lorry in North district’s Churaibari, seizing 263 kg of dry ganja.
Narayan Chandra Sarkar, the driver found at the wheel, was immediately arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty revealed that a tip-off tipped the police about a large consignment of ganja being taken from Agartala to Guwahati via Churaibari.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police stopped the lorry with registration number NL01AG5879 around noon and conducted a thorough search, which led to the discovery of 39 hidden packets of dry cannabis in the empty vehicle.
Chakraborty asserted that the market value of the seized ganja is estimated at Rs 4 lakh.
The arrested driver, Sarkar, a resident of Bhattapukur in AD police station area, has confessed to smuggling drugs from Agartala to Guwahati.
Churibari Police Station has started further investigation to nab more accused involved in this illegal operation.
