Tripura: PCC chief says Congress is all set to oust BJP.
Agartala: Pradesh Congress Committee president Birajit Sinha on Thursday said his party is all set to oust the BJP from power in the 2023 assembly elections.
Talking to reporters, PCC chief Birajit Sinha said that the main agenda of the party is to oust the BJP from power.
However, he claimed that the central leadership was looking at an opportunity to form a pre-poll alliance.
The central leadership is discussing the matter regarding the alliance. Our main objective is to oust BJP from power and we are working and moving forward in this direction. We don’t know whether there will be an alliance or not because the central leadership is thinking about it but our main aim is to oust the BJP anyway,” Sinha said.
He further said that the Congress is fully prepared and preparations are going on in full swing.
In the history of Tripura, once the Congress was in power and now the way we are preparing in 3,223 polling stations, we have our own Congress Committee and have formed a Mandal Congress Committee with 10 polling stations. We are fully prepared and now waiting for the election dates”, he said.
Congress, which was known as the main opposition political party before 2018, did not have any MLAs after the arrival of BJP in the state as majority of Congress MLAs joined BJP.
The party’s vote share, however, increased significantly in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when Tipra Motha chairman Pradyut Kishore Mankeya Dibarma was the party chief. But later the party failed to make an impact in the Agartala Municipal Corporation elections as well as in any other elections. But after the former minister, Sudeep Roy Burman became the only Congress MLA in the state after quitting the BJP.
