Agartala: Tripura: Infiltration by armed NLFT ultras has thrown the police department into ‘confusion’. The infiltration of a four-member group of the banned NLFT militant group has sent the police. The department into a panic with fears that the fresh movement has been targeted to carry out specific tasks.
Sources said that the group of four persons has allegedly moved from Ganganagar in Dhalai district to Taidu in Gomti district.
Police said the militant group crossed the barbed wire fence from its training camps in Bangladesh and entered Tripura via Manipur with firearms.
“The NLFT ultras group belongs to the Baswa Mohan faction of the NLFT, some of whose cadres are still active. Recently, they have intensified their activities and recruitment drive in the border villages where the tribal population is dominant,” sources said. told.
The group is led by Tirti Molasam alias Bikram and is advancing through mountain passes through deep forests.
“Their intentions are not clear. But the way they are moving strategically shows that they have a specific operation ahead of the Independence Day celebrations,” said intelligence sources.
According to the police, additional forces of police and Tripura State Rifles were deployed to avoid any security breach. The situation is being closely monitored by security forces and its intelligence network.
“So far, none of our police team has seen anyone picking up a weapon,” said a top source.
On the other hand, local sources say that the operatives of the banned organization were seen roaming in the village but they left before the police search operation. It remains to be seen what efforts are made to build confidence in the hilly areas and thwart insurgent movements.
