Chief Minister Manik Saha and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma on Wednesday held a special review meeting on the progress of settlement of the borough where the Chief Minister urged the borough leaders to visit the designated settlement villages for the beneficiaries.
The officer quoted Saha as saying, “The chief minister has clearly appealed to the district leaders to ensure that all the remaining district refugees who are still living in the relief camps, the 12 designated places identified by the state But settle down,” the officer said, quoting Saha.
Saha said that the administration is ready to provide all possible assistance to Buro refugees after they are shifted to new places under the historic agreement signed in January 2020.
The Election Department has set a target of registering 20,000 bro-voters from around 6,300 families. Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Subhashish Bandhupadhyay told PTI, “A total of 7,165 baro names have already been registered in Tripura while the remaining names are expected to be registered in the electoral rolls of the state during the special summary revision.”
“We urged the Bru leaders present in the meeting to go to the designated resettlement villages and register their names during the ongoing revision of electoral rolls. If they do not do so, they will be disenfranchised in the 2023 assembly elections. Will be deprived of voting.
Meanwhile, the state government has rejected a proposal to set up a resettlement village for Baru refugees sheltered in Kanchanpur sub-division. However, they will be rehabilitated at new locations – Gomti and South Tripura district.
Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) said, “All baro refugees sheltered in four relief camps in Kanchanpur in North Tripura district should be shifted to new places by November 30 or their ration will be stopped from December 1.” will be given.”
