
Agartala: Freedom fighters suspected to belong to the Biswa Mohan Debbarma faction of the NLFT ambushed a BSF patrolling party along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura on Friday morning.
A BSF officer who was seriously injured in the attack has died.
Freedom fighters opened fire on BSF patrolling personnel posted at Shamnapur BOP under Anandabazar police station in North Tripura district.
The incident took place near the Indo-Bangla border bordering both Tripura and Mizoram.
According to sources, the BSF jawans of BOP 2 were patrolling the border as usual this morning when the Freedom fighters opened fire on the border security personnel.
The BSF personnel retaliated as a result of which the Freedom fighters fled to their hideouts in Bangladesh.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) North Tripura along with a large police team reached the accident spot.
The DIG of BSF has also reached the accident site on a helicopter. BSF has also started combing operation in the area.
