Agartala: Tension remains high in Qila area of Tripura’s Gomti district following a communal clash between two communities and Police Vehicle set on fire.
At least eight people have been injured in the clash that took place on Monday morning.
People belonging to two communities clashed over a disputed piece of forest land in Kalli area of Tripura’s Gomti district.
People belonging to a local community in the area alleged that at least 28 Muslim families have started living in the disputed forest land, which they claim is owned by the government.
On the other hand, the Muslim families claim that they have been allowed to stay on the land, while their application is pending in court.
“There have been several incidents in the last two years where problems have arisen between these two communities,” said Udaipur SDPO Dharbanath.
A police vehicle was also set on fire during the clashes.
On the other hand, the local people of Muslim Basti claimed that they retaliated after being attacked with sharp weapons.
Meanwhile, tight security has been deployed in the area following the clash.
