Tripura CM ‘Consulting legal experts’ on 10,323 teachers cut

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday said the state government is consulting legal experts to find a permanent solution to the problem of 10,323 minor teachers.

The sacked teachers have been protesting since March 2020 when they were dismissed from government service after the Tripura High Court and the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the petitioners challenging the recruitment rules.
Recently, Dr. Saha met a delegation of teachers seeking rehabilitation in service and assured them that he would try to find a permanent solution to their plight.

Speaking during the party campaign, Dr Saha said, “It’s not that we don’t want to give them jobs. But the many legal complications associated with the matter have made our job difficult. Sometimes, even if you have There is a passion to do something, legal obligations will not allow us to move forward.”
The chief minister also said that he is consulting legal experts to resolve the long-standing issue.

With the elections approaching, the protest by 10,323 teachers is intensifying and even the ruling BJP has tried to reach out to the sacked teachers. A permanent solution to retrenchments was among the BJP’s promises before the 2018 assembly elections.
“The teachers have raised several issues before us. They have interpreted the High Court and Supreme Court judgments in their own way, which suggests that some relaxation may be given. Our consultation with legal experts is continuing in that direction. Even all my cabinet colleagues sympathize with the absentee teachers. But, we have to be careful in our approach, otherwise, it may invite contempt of court proceedings. So, we have to be very careful. Have to stay. I would like to ask the teachers to keep calm and wait for us. Hasty decisions can be harmful,” said the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister, however, did not clarify how long the teachers would have to wait for a solution.

Reacting to the issue, Kamal Deb, a protesting teacher, said, “We welcome the Chief Minister’s statement. I hope the state cabinet approves the proposal to send us back to schools in the coming days.
