AGARTALA: International Buddhist University in Tripura will be founded by World Buddhist Pope Association of Korea chief monk Shakya Gasan.
Shakya Gasan will inaugurate the International Buddhist University at Manu Bankul in South Tripura on November 29.
Manu bankul in South Tripura is located about 90 km from the state capital Agartala.
Apart from top officials of the Tripura government, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy CM Chunaman, local MLA Shankar Roy and senior Buddhist monk Dr Pooranchai Panyapong from Thailand will also be present at the foundation stone laying ceremony.
Guests from Vietnam, Myanmar, UK, Holland and Canada will also attend the event.
However, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will reportedly not attend the foundation stone laying ceremony due to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar’s visit on the same day.
This information was given by the Secretary General of the International Buddhist Confederation – Dhamapiya on Sunday.
Dhammadeepa International Buddhist University (DDIBU) will be the first Buddhist-run university in India.
The university will offer courses in Buddhist studies as well as other areas of modern education.
“Dhammadeepa International Buddhist University (DDIBU) will be the first Buddhist university in India to be headed by a Buddhist monastery and run by Buddhists,” Dhampaiya said.
Dhamapiya also said that the Dalai Lama would not attend the foundation stone laying ceremony.
However, the Dalai Lama has sent his best wishes to the International Buddhist University.
