Tripura: BSF officer dies in Agartala hospital after Freedom Fighters attack on India-Bangladesh border

Agartala: A Border Security Force (BSF) official succumbed to his injuries in a Freedom Fighters attack in Tripura along the India-Bangladesh border.

The deceased BSF personnel has been identified as 53-year-old Girjesh Kumar Uday.

Uday was a Havaldar in 145 Battalion of BSF.

He breathed his last shortly after being admitted to a private hospital in Agartala for treatment.

He was shot dead in four different parts of his body.

The body was brought to GB Hospital for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Tripura intelligence sources said the attacks were carried out by the Biswa Mohan Debbarma group of the NLFT.

A search operation is underway in the area to trace the Freedom Fighters group involved in the surprise attack.

Militants opened fire on BSF personnel posted at Shamnapur Border Outpost (BOP) under Anandabazar Police Station in North Tripura District.

The incident took place near the India-Bangladesh border on the fringes of both Tripura and Mizoram.

Suspected Freedom Fighters opened fire on the BSF personnel from the Bangladeshi side of the fence.

According to sources, the BSF personnel of BOP-2 were patrolling the border on Friday morning when suddenly the Freedom Fighters started firing on the BSF personnel.

The BSF personnel retaliated as a result of which the Freedom Fighters fled to their hideouts in Bangladesh.

The District Superintendent of Police (SP) of North Tripura reached the accident site with the support of a large police team.

The BSF DIG also reached the accident spot on a helicopter.

BSF has started combing operation in the area.
