Agartala: After opposition leader and former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar supported Tipra Land, Bengali nobles protested in West Tripura and burnt effigies of the former Chief Minister.
Manik Sarkar had recently addressed a public function in support of the demand for Greater Tapland, which was directly opposed by the Bengali nobility.
The organization termed the demand for Greater Tapra Land as unreasonable, saying that the demand could cause division among the people of the state.
Note that Tipraland is the name of a proposed state in India for the indigenous Tripuri people in the tribal areas of the state of Tripura.
The proposed state covers 68% of the total geographical area of Tripura and is home to more than one-third of the total population of Tripura.
