Tripura: IGNOU Agartala RC inks pact with UNICEF

Agartala: The IGNOU Agartala RC Regional Center in Tripura has joined hands with the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to design a course on early childhood care.

Special emphasis is being laid on specific techniques that can be of great benefit to Anganwadi workers.

Dr. Arobindo Mahato, Regional Director, IGNOU Agartala RC in Tripura described the development as a step towards fulfilling need-based quality education and providing skilled manpower for every sector.
“Indira Gandhi National Open University and UNICEF have collaborated to develop a certificate program in early childhood care and education aimed at Anganwadi workers/teachers working with preschool children aged 3-6 years and special In this regard, an MoU was signed between IGNOU and UNICEF on 7th October 2022 at IGNOU Headquarters, New Delhi for program development and implementation. said Dr Mehto.
He added that the course would be very helpful for a state like Tripura considering the current scenario where there is a shortage of skilled manpower in early childhood care and education.
He opined that this course will fill the manpower shortage and skill gap in the respective field not only in Tripura but across the country.

According to him, quality early childhood care has now become an indispensable part of modern life.
And thus it is the need of the hour to consider the various barriers to proper care and upbringing of children.

“Since play-based pedagogy plays an important role in a child’s development, it becomes very important for the right orientation of the youth by experts in this field. This course is being developed in line with the National Education Policy 2020 which I have print and video based delivery methods and will be offered to learners soon.
