Itanagar: In a major development, the Arunachal Pradesh government has given the go-ahead for the construction of the 1,748-km long Frontier Highway, which will connect western Kameng district with Changlang district in the eastern part of the state.
The proposed highway will connect the border areas of China, Myanmar and Bhutan, increasing connectivity and accessibility in the region.
A senior engineer from the Arunachal Pradesh government’s Highways Department (PWD) confirmed that the Trans-Arunachal Highway, which stretches over 1,811 km, is nearing completion.
With the focus on the Frontier Highway and Inter-Connectivity Corridor projects recently approved by the Central Government, significant progress is expected in the infrastructure development of the region.
The Frontier Highway is scheduled to start from Bomdila in West Kameng, which shares borders with China and Bhutan, and will end at Vijayanagar in Changlang, bordering Myanmar.
Spanning a distance of 1,748 km, the construction of the highway will be overseen by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the Border Road Organization, and the state PWD.
To strengthen connectivity, MoRTH has identified six inter-connectivity corridors in Assam to connect National Highway-15 with Trans-Arunachal Highway (NH-13) and the proposed Frontier Highway (NH-913).
This strategic road network will facilitate smooth transportation and promote economic development in the region.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu reviewed the progress of various road projects undertaken by the State Departments of Highways, Public Works, Rural Works and Urban Development.
Emphasizing the importance of adherence to high quality standards and timely completion, Khandu urged engineers, especially chief engineers of all zones and divisions, to ensure that detailed project reports (DPRs) are accurate. Budgets should be compiled with estimates.
