Guwahati: A team of Election Commission of India (ECI) is going on a two-day visit to Assam from Tuesday (March 05).
Their agenda includes meetings with state officials, political parties and various organizations to get feedback on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Apart from gathering inputs, the ECI team will engage in discussions with Assam Police officials regarding security arrangements for the election process.
Along with this, the Assam government has formally requested the ECI to schedule the polls before Bohag Bihu.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has advocated for this timing, believing it will foster a more festive and participatory atmosphere among the electorate.
During the ECI team’s visit, both the chief minister and the chief secretary of Assam will advocate for their request to the ECI, emphasizing the cultural significance and public enthusiasm associated with the Bohag Bihu festival.
