Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have launched a massive combing operation across the state to recover weapons looted by miscreants after the violence.
According to defense sources, security forces have launched a combing operation to “recover stolen arms and ammunition” in the hills and valleys of Manipur.
The Indian Army further appealed to “locals possessing such weapons to hand them over to the security forces for the sake of peace and harmony”.
It may be mentioned here that the people of Manipur have so far surrendered more than 700 arms and around 11,000 rounds of ammunition, which were looted earlier.
However, a large number of arms and ammunitions are still in the possession of miscreants, who have been attacking armed security personnel and civilians.
According to sources, miscreants have looted around 4,000 weapons and over five lakh ammunitions from various armed forces arsenals and outposts in Manipur since the violence started in the state.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had appealed to the people of Manipur to return the stolen weapons, failing which a combing operation would be launched and strict action would be taken.
