Imphal: As part of the security measures taken by the Manipur government to protect farmers with the arrival of monsoon harvest season, 2,267 personnel of the Manipur Rifles and Indian Reserve Battalion will be deployed to protect the farmers.
Inspector General of Police, (Ops), IK Muivah told the media at the conference hall of Manipur Police Headquarters on Saturday evening that under the guidance of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the police department has taken this step to protect the farmers. Monsoon harvest season is coming.
He said that the personnel who were posted as security guards of VIPs, VVIPs, government offices and others will be reduced so that they can be deployed to protect farmers during cultivation.
Muivah said that 822 personnel will be posted for Imphal West district. 298 officials for Imphal East; 236 officials for Bishnupur; 147 personnel for Thoubal; 204 officials for Kakching; 200 personnel for Kangpokpi and 300 personnel for Churachandpur to protect farmers.
He appealed to the farmers to contact the Superintendent of Police of the concerned district through their respective village leaders to provide security to them to avoid unnecessary attacks or incidents.
Muivah further appealed to the farmers not to go to the paddy fields located in peripheral areas without the permission of the police.
Meanwhile, Muivah added that during the last 24 hours, the state and central forces conducted a massive search operation in the vulnerable and fringe areas of the hilltop of the Langza area near Khoijumantabi, East and West Chinglangmei in Churachandpur district. Mountain range; Ukha Tampak, Phuaisanphai, Moirang Turel Mapal Ward no. 9 and Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai, Bishnupur district; Sokom Village, Nazareth Village, Keiphom village, Sahumphai Village, Khunbi Bazar Areas in Kakching.
Responding to the media, Muivah said that no arms and ammunition were recovered during the entire operation.
