Imphal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered as many as six cases in connection with the mass violence in Manipur.
Additionally, the CBI has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the violence in Manipur that wreaked havoc in the state for over a month.
The SIT constituted by the CBI to probe the mass violence in Manipur will be headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
CBI will consist of 10 officials from the IT Bureau.
It should be noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had announced a CBI probe into violence in the state during his recent visit to Manipur.
Of the six cases registered, five relate to the alleged criminal conspiracy, while the sixth is on the general conspiracy behind the violence in Manipur.
Manipur has been on the boil since May 3 following clashes between two communities in the state and subsequent widespread violence.
Around 100 people have lost their lives and thousands have been displaced in the state following the clashes and subsequent violence.
It should be noted that after a short period of peace, fresh violence is being seen in Manipur.
