To lessen East Siang power crisis MLA Moyong calls for swift action

Itnagar: Pasighat township and the entire East Siang district have been grappling with continuous power cuts for the past few months due to which the people have turned their frustrations towards the power department, district administration and elected representatives.
Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong called a power review meeting with East Siang District Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu on Wednesday to review the power supply situation.
In the presence of leaders of the Power Department, Power Grid, Pasighat Municipal Council and PRI, MLA Kaling Moyong stressed the need for adequate and effective measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers.
He acknowledged the state government’s support for the welfare of the power sector in the district and urged the concerned department to provide reliable and people-friendly standard power supply to Pasighat township.
Mowing stressed the importance of a transparent distribution system to build public confidence.
Despite the recent connection of an alternative power line from Assam’s Chapakhuwa to Pasighat, residents continue to face severe power outages.
To address the power crisis, MLA Mowing urged for immediate completion of work on substations and transmission lines under the comprehensive scheme overseen by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).
The initiative aims to provide a stable and sufficient power supply to Pasighat and the district to meet the growing demand.
MLA Mowing also appealed to the people of Pasighat to cooperate and support projects related to the development of electricity infrastructure.
Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu highlighted the growing need for electricity for the upcoming projects related to Pasi Ghat as a Smart City.
Taggu emphasized the commitment of the district administration to provide 24×7 services to support development activities.
Officials of Power Grid, Power Department and Transmission Department informed the meeting about various developments and challenges related to power crisis.
They said that the township’s demand is continuously increasing, and trying to handle 7.5 MW load out of 9 MW supply.
Additionally, a new footing supply from Likhabali will soon be connected to Niglok substation, which will increase the power supply capacity of Pasighat.
However, the recent theft of copper wires from the Napit Power Substation has raised concerns. MLA Moyong and DC Taggu appealed to the public to cooperate with the Electricity Department and the district administration in identifying and punishing those responsible for such theft.
They urged the landowners to cooperate in the installation of power towers and not obstruct the development of infrastructure. The Bogong-II ZPM, Ogam Mengu, proposed disconnecting electricity supply connections from the houses of those who obstruct infrastructure development and prevent them from using public roads.
