
To foster biodiversity Aaranyak and Samagra Shiksha Assam unite
Guwahati: Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation organization, along with Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) Baksa District organized an effective teacher training workshop on ‘Education for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainability’ at Nikashi High School, Baksa on August 3. Contributed to conduct.
Jayanta Kumar Pathak, senior manager of Aaranyak, led the workshop, and emphasized on scientific methods to tackle environmental challenges. Pathak highlighted the need to preserve traditional environmental knowledge, manage human-elephant conflicts and protect water sources. The interactive activities emphasized the urgency of conserving rivers and tributaries, which are vital to the life of the region.
Pranab Jyoti Kalita, District Program Officer, SSA Baksa district, emphasized the importance of the evolving role and contribution of teachers in light of the region’s unique environment and new education policies. Youth and Eco Club’s initiatives to develop critical thinking and environmental awareness among students were appreciated.
Tanvi Hussain from Aaranyak emphasized on sustainable education, integrating traditional wisdom with modern science to overcome resource challenges and achieve the SDGs.
Rabiya Daimary, another Aaranyak representative, highlighted coexistence with wild elephants for conservation, discussing Aaranyak’s efforts to reduce conflict.
Wasima Begum demonstrated mapping of sustainability practices, campus biodiversity and species diversity using the quadrat method.
The workshop, supported by Wipro Earthian and SBI Foundation, was attended by 28 participants, including 22 teachers representing 22 schools in 9 Baksa district clusters.
