New Delhi: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, along with his cabinet colleagues, is scheduled to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah today, July 5, on the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) issue and implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. will be discussed. The meeting is scheduled to be held at 4 pm at the home minister’s residence in Delhi.
The meeting was preceded on July 4 by Chief Minister Rio and 11 Cabinet ministers in Delhi with Interlocutor and Special Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) AK Mishra. During the meeting, they discussed the Centre’s proposal for an agreement with ENPO.
On July 2, members of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization had expressed their intention to invite various stakeholders, including Sumis of Kiphire and Shamator districts, to a joint coordination meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the inclusion or exclusion of the Sumi community in the Autonomous Council of the Eastern Districts.
According to the sources, the joint coordination meeting was scheduled to start from 10 AM on July 4, 2023 at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur. A decision on the inclusion or exclusion of Sumis was expected after the meeting.
In a press note issued by ENPO, they said, “After receipt of letter of confirmation as stated, and after thorough consideration, ENPO Executive has invited the Sumi of the said districts to ENPO movement. Decided to grant permission to join Frontier Nagata Territory (FNT) in this regard a joint coordination meeting with East Sumatra Hoho is being convened on 4th July 2023 at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur from 10:00 am to discuss Can be done and move forward together.”
