Itanagar: China released another list of 30 geographical names in the ‘Zangnan’ region of Arunachal Pradesh in India.
The move added to the existing tension between the two countries over China’s territorial claims over Arunachal Pradesh.
According to Chinese state media, the country’s Ministry of Civil Affairs unveiled the fourth list of “standard geographical names” of thirty places in Arunachal Pradesh, which it recognized as ‘Zangnan’.
The Chinese release includes thirty names officially used in Arunachal Pradesh.
China had earlier in April 2023 ‘standardized’ 11 names in Arunachal Pradesh using Chinese characters, Tibetan and Pinyin, forming the third list.
The first list was released in 2017, followed by the second list in 2021.
China, which refers to Arunachal Pradesh as Zangnan, has reiterated its claim to the region as an integral part of its territory.
China vehemently rejects what it considers an “illegally established” Arunachal Pradesh by India.
“Our position on Arunachal Pradesh is very clear and has been reiterated time and again. China’s baseless claims will not change our position,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in response to China’s moves.
