Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has decided to schedule a dialogue for a ‘constitutional solution’ for the indigenous people of Tripura, TIPRA Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said on Wednesday.
Pradyot’s statement came shortly after the swearing-in ceremony with Home Minister Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha at the state guest house. Then came the hour-long meeting with BJP Govt.
After the meeting, Pradyot said that the Home Minister has started the process for a constitutional solution for the indigenous people of Tripura.
“A negotiator will be appointed for this process and it will be within a certain time frame. I thank the Home Minister for understanding the real problems of the son of the soil. We signed the Bru agreement on 23 Years later, we have successfully restored our people in our state and today we have started a big dialogue to ensure our survival and security of existence. Issues like unity and cabinet have never been discussed,” he said. Only the interest of our dopha was discussed.
In the meeting, BJP NE Coordinator Sambit Patra said that today is the most important day for Tripura as BJP formed another government and Dr. Manik Saha was sworn in as Chief Minister of Tripura.
“We had a meeting with TIPRA Motha leaders including Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma.. The meeting had a comprehensive discussion on the development of tribal people in the state and how we can solve their problems and give them more respect and dignity. are”, he said.
He further informed that a series of discussions will be held with regional political parties and other NGOs to find a solution which has been assured by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Saha.
Sambit, however, claimed that Tipra Motha’s demands were not discussed in the meeting.
“Tipra Motha did not raise any demands and we did not discuss any demands. Even the alliance was not discussed. It was a general discussion on the welfare of the tribals,” Sambit said.
