Three Rohingyas detained in Tripura

Agartala: Tripura police on Tuesday arrested three Rohingya migrants from an area near Agartala railway station. The three, including two minor girls and an adult man, were on their way to Delhi, police said. Similar arrests were made in different parts of Tripura, including Dharmanagar Nagar, Kailashahar and Khowai.

Police sources said that there is a possibility of their involvement in the human trafficking nexus.
Speaking on the matter, OC Amtali Police Station Siddharth Kar said, “Locals first spotted him in the area of Siddhi Ashram. Police were informed after his suspicious movements which led to his arrest. Police patrol team and Special Branch personnel arrested him from Siddhi Ashram area.

Kar also told the media that during the initial interrogation, he had revealed that he was originally from Myanmar and was staying in a refugee camp in Bangladesh.
One of the minor girls said that she had reached Tripura to board the Delhi-bound train. He added that one of his sisters lives in Delhi, which is why he decided to go there for help. Muhammad Farooq, the group’s only adult member, said the three were from the same village and were helping them reach Delhi.”All of them will be produced in court on Wednesday with a prayer for police remand,” police said. When asked, the police officer said, “No objectionable documents have been recovered from their possession. But. “Since the girls are minors, we suspect that they are involved in a human trafficking racket. All these cases are under investigation.”
