Shillong: In a recent political development in Meghalaya, three MLAs – two from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and one from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) – have tendered their resignations to the Speaker.
Hamlet Dohling, MLA from Mylliem constituency and former civil affairs minister, and Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, MLA from Umsning constituency, both from Peoples Democratic Front (PDF), have tendered their resignations to the speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly. are
Sohiong Constituency MLA and HSPDP’s former PHE Minister Sumlin Malngiang has also tendered his resignation.
All three MLAs will join the ruling National People’s Party (NPP). Jason Sawkmie Mawlong’s induction ceremony will take place tomorrow in Umsning, while Hamlet Dohling will officially join the NPP on January 7 and Samlin Malngiang on January 10.
As the elections approach, several MLAs have started moving to other parties in search of more favorable political prospects. Many are looking for ‘greener pastures’ by switching parties or joining newly formed coalitions.
There are reports that more MLAs will resign and join other political parties. Four MLAs – Renikton Tongkhar, PT Sawkmie, Mayralborn Syiem, and Lambor Malngiang – are expected to join the United Democratic Party (UDP) later this month.
