Three arrested with huge cache of arms seized by Assam Rifles

Aizawl: Assam Rifles personnel and the state police recovered a large cache of ammunition and arrested three persons, including a senior citizen, in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district near the Bangladesh border.

An Assam Rifles official said the paramilitary force had received information about cadres of the insurgent organization Kuki-Chan National Army (KCNA) operating in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), who were among the migrants. They crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border in disguise.
She said that they are suspected to be involved in the smuggling of war-like shops in Lawngtlai district with the help of some local people.
A total of 1,008 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, 2 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and one round each of UBGL 40/46 mm ammunition and 38 SPL ammunition were fired during the operation on Sunday, she said.
Three persons, identified as Joseph Lalnuntluang (48), Vanrothawna (58) and Dabibadah (75), all residents of Parva village in Lawngtlai district, were said to be in possession of ammunition, he said. He has been arrested on the charge of
The official said the three accused, suspected to be KCNA supporters, were arrested while planning to shelter KCNA cadres in Hmambu or Bultlang village of the district.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles also said in a statement that smuggling of war-like stores is an alarmingly growing trend in south Mizoram since the influx of migrants from Bangladesh.
It said the movement of Bangladeshi insurgent groups has increased under the guise of migrants in India.

They are involved in smuggling of war-like stores in Mizoram and are a threat to internal security.

The Assam Rifles are currently deployed in large numbers to guard the Indo-Myanmar border, the statement said.
