Guwahati: Police have arrested three persons in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district after recovering a large quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession. The operation, jointly conducted by the local police and CRPF, began on Saturday night in Diphu.
Acting on a confirmed tip-off, the joint team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Nayanmoni Barman conducted a swift and well-coordinated operation to nab the suspects involved in illegal activities.
After thorough interrogation, the arrested persons led the police team to a secret location where a large quantity of arms was hidden in bamboo bushes.
A senior officer involved in the operation revealed that the weapons were carefully wrapped in a plastic packet, including an AK series rifle with its magazine, three pistols and three live grenades. Apart from this, two mobile phones were also seized during the operation.
The recovered stockpile of arms and ammunition raises concerns about the possible misuse of such firepower and poses a threat to the safety and security of the region.
The authorities have registered a case under various provisions of the Arms Act, 1959 at Diphu police station to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
