The RPF of North East Frontier Railway recovered contraband

Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of North East Frontier (NF) Railways has continued its campaign against the shipment of contraband through railways.

During the period of November 26 and November 30, the RPF of NF Railway conducted a campaign against smuggling of contraband at Agartala, Dharmanagar, New Bongaigaon, Katihar and New Tinsukia railway stations in Assam and Tripura.
After this drive, contraband worth Rs 41.9 lakh was recovered.

During the operation, RPF of North East Frontier Railway recovered a total of 110 packets of ganja weighing 224 kg worth around Rs 21.9 lakh.
During the drive, 24 cases of brown sugar soap weighing about 312.67 grams, worth about Rs.20 lakh, were also recovered.

In this regard, six persons have been arrested with recovery and seizure.
The arrested persons along with the seized items were later handed over to the concerned OC/GRP or local police station for further action.

“In an incident on November 26, 2022, Agartala and GRP/RPF team of Agartala, acting on information, conducted an operation at Agartala railway station. While driving, they detected a suspicious person carrying two bags. On opening the bags, 09 packets of ganja were found. The weight of the ganja was around 22 kg and its value was around Rs. 5000. Rs. 2.20 lakh was seized. Later, the arrested person was sent to Agartala for further processing with the recovered ganja. handed over to GRP,” NF Railway said in a statement.

“In another incident on November 30, 2022, a joint team of RPF/ New Tinsukia and Tinsukia Local Police conducted an operation at New Tinsukia Railway Station in Train No. 3. 15901 (Limding – Tinsukia Express). The team during the operation recovered 24 soap cases of brown sugar from five persons, including three women. The seized brown sugar was worth around Rs 20 lakh and weighed around 312.67 grams. NF Railways added that the arrested persons along with the seized items has been taken into custody by Tinsukia local police for further action.
