Imphal: The Minister for Water Resources of Manipur inspected the weak areas along the Iril River. Manipur Water Resources and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Aung Bo Niomai on Thursday inspected the weak banks of Ariel River and its tributaries namely Guru Pat river and Yaralpat river along with ACMLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan of Khongnangkhong village.
The ministerial team inspected critical areas such as Kshetri Awang Leikai Top Khongnangkhong, Salaudin and Jalil Mipa, Naharp Chandan Thong Khong, Khongjan Culvert Achouba and Saikhom Mapa on the left bank of the Earl River. In addition, the current situation in Yaralapat and Gropet, which is about 5.5 km in length, was reviewed and it was decided to start drainage work after the monsoon season.
Briefing the media, the Minister said that expert opinion on soil condition study and techniques is required for permanent solution to avoid floods and soil erosion in rainy season.
For permanent solution of the affected areas, the Minister said that the department would submit a detailed project report (DPR) to the Ministry.
The ministerial team was accompanied by Additional Chief Engineer (Flood) Y Homendro Singh, Shahid Shah, SE and Executive Engineer of Water Resources Department Remmei Ningthoujao and other officers of the department.
